Strategies:
"Agincourt"
This strategy provides a difficult but
practical way to recover lost points mid-game or toward the end of
the game, after suffering heavy losses. This attack is effective vs.
non-ranged units. Depending on the size and type of the enemy's
force, you'll need 3 things: 3-4 contingents of ranged units, 2-3
contingents of infantry, and a few villagers (with about 100 wood.
Here's how it works:
-
Determine, or make an educated
guess where your enemy's main force is located. Your enemy
probably knows you are on the run.
-
Scout out a 3x3 square area
away from your enemy and away from your old base having 5
raised squares, that is outside the enemy's FOV. Don't get
too near the edge unless you are certain your enemy's navy
is unable to attack.
- Scout out a path to march your
troops that is also outside the enemy's FOV.
- Quietly march your troops, your
king and villagers along this path to that area. Stop them
on a raised square just before they reach it.
- Have your villagers build a
palisade wall fortification around each of the 5 raised
squares. And add a few choke points around the lower
squares. Position most (but not all) of your ranged units on
the forward-facing outer raised squares. Leave a few archers
behind.
- At the same time, use your scout
to lead an enemy unit to where your troops are standing (be
sure to approach from the side), make sure the enemy sees
your king. This is where the enemy will focus his next
attack.
- Once the enemy has seen the
infantry, move your troops into location. Place your
remaining ranged units with the rest. Place your infantry in
staggered formation on the lower squares, behind your
artificial choke points. Place your king in the center
raised square. Make sure your units are in defensive
posture.
- Wait for the enemy to charge, try
to force him thru your chokepoints. If executed well, the
enemy should charge twice, and then retreat -- your scores
should be even.
